We first met Mat and Helen at NCT (antenatal) classes when they were expecting Sam and we were expecting George.

On introducing himself, Mat apologised in advance for the fact that he may not recognise us on future meetings due to his eyesight.
Mat need not have apologised. We very quickly realised that he was kind, warm and funny. It was very easy to see why he and Helen had found each other.

Mat turned up at one of the NCT classes with the most amazing raspberry cake which was made with raspberries from their garden.

Having met through NCT classes, we got to know Mat as a partner to Helen and as a Daddy to Sam and Jack. These two roles were very clearly the most wonderful things in his world. He so obviously adored Helen, the boys and family life.

When we remember Mat, we firstly think of his love for and his pride in his family. We also think of his beaming smile and his sense of fun. My first night out after having baby George was with Helen and the other NCT group Mums. Mat was at home with Sam. He messaged Helen a photo of baby Sam playing poker with his teddies. He and Sam were having their first boy’s night.

We also remember him beaming with pride once Jack had been born. He was an incredibly happy and proud Daddy to have two such wonderful boys.
